A day out in Ranikor
It all started with my close friends Pou Leong, and Ming the two New World brothers as we were discussing on some matters (guy talks hahahah) Ming came out with a brilliant idea, lets go Camping enthusiastically he said, at first I was kinda skeptical with the idea as I was worried with the dates but as we sorted it was Durga Puja holiday so finally a huge sigh to me. I fixed my mind for the camping. Now as we discussed Camping and where to camp, Ming did a bit of googling and finalized with Dawki. The site is a good spot for camping and angling.
As the week pass by, and the week for camping had arrived I sorted out the stuffs to take for a day camping. Just before beginning from home I rang Ming to confirm, and was surprised to know from him that the place for camping would be Ranikor, nevertheless it was not a problem as my mind was set for camping which ever place it may be. On a Sunday evening I started my journey to Shillong from my hometown, On reaching Shillong it was dark and called up Pou as I would be staying at his place for the night and to start the journey to Ranikor together with the other friends.
Ming was at home I greeted him, and plans of how to go about the camping idea just started, no sooner few other friends had come over Ming's place and all of us joining the discussion, as we discussed we fixed the time for all of us to be ready and that was 6 am in the morning.
Monday morning hahahahahahah as usual as the winter months had approach the weather is chilly and cold, quite surprisingly Pou was awake by 4:30 that is unusual hahahhaha I guess the Camping idea woke him up. Pou Started calling Eddy and Chester our friends early morning making sure that
they wake up hahahhaha. Pou and I were ready before 6 even Ming too was all set. All of us were expecting that everybody to turn up by 6, however from 6 we all started at about 8;30 hahahahahhah
usual IST timings.
There were three groups set for the camping, Ming's group, Ehlang's and Pou's group I was seated with Pou's Group wherein Peter our other friend the guide was at the Car's steering.
As we started out, (Pou's Group) we had to halt for a tyre repair, Peter did not want to take any risk so he had to get the tyre repaired moreover it was a wise decision. In the mean time as the tyre was being repaired we also waited for the other groups to come.
Finally the tyre job is done and we are all set, as we travel towards the destined camp I personally enjoyed the view in the morning. We took the Mawngap road and halted at the place to buy few things for camp. From Mawngap we headed straight to Ranikor, Midway we halted at Weiloi as we were all hungry (Pou's Group) for a quick breakfast.
Done with breakfast and again begin the journey but this time Pou was at the Car's Steering. As we travel and chit chatting we learned that Peter is an avid photographer and to my surprised he got a cool cam Nikkon pro model with all the lenses and stuffs. Folks for your information Peter has an FB page Discover Meghalaya, all the Pics taken by him are uploaded in the page (Guys its a must see ). Peter was at all time shooting and capturing the natural and scenic beauty. We were travelling towards Mawkyrwat to pick up one of Peter's friend to join us along the trip. It was good to have him as he was a local folk in the area. On the way we spotted a dead snake green in color i was trying to recollect my old knowledge of reptiles but to no use i knew it was a non Venomous snake, nevertheless we took pics of it Peter was all the way to glory posing with it.
As we were nearing Ranikor the weather was getting humid and hot, probably coz of the border effect and the altitude. We reached Ranikor and halted at a small Rest for a quick bite then proceeded ahead to the camping site, the famous told Ranikor Bridge and yes finally my heart was overwhelmed to see the bridge and under it the mighty Kynshi river.
The other members too had arrived, we parked our vehicles at a place near a food stall adjacent to the bridge. we took our stuffs and started walking towards the camping site, we had to go down a steep steps towards the river bank, the boatmen I pre-assumed were waiting for us anxiously ( taking people towards the other side of the river bank was their daily livlihood). We booked one of the boats and yes a boat ride on Kynshi river, a good experience, The boat ride was kinda risky too.....Gosh what would it be if the boat capsized hahahahahha........(Man the wooden boat I wonder how people managed it.... I recollected what Pou was saying when he had to sit on a boat where there was a water leakage he had to throw the water out with an object ( Pou knows what the object was) hahhahahaah its definitely a good experience hahahaha...... We touched the other bank of the kynshi river this time we were at a confluence point of the river between Kynshi and Rilang River. We could see a family of anglers all along the river bank. We waited for the groups to cross the river. Soon they arrived and we trailed for 30 minutes towards the site, it was getting dark we quickly set our tents secured our perimeter hahahahah (soldier's language) I took out my Naga Dao split the firewoods into pieces.
Our Chef Daniel ( in his own world hahahahahah) started preparing the recipies and food stuffs, folks
I should say he is a good chef, he prepared chicken. In the mean time as Daniel and folks were preparing the food we started our drinks and talks etc hahahahah, the food was ready though but we continued with our sessions of talks and drinks ( Real great fun ) I was hungry pretty hungry I started and called everyone woke up Peter as he was fast asleep, all of us enjoyed the food and we relished the taste of the chicken, however Daniel was the odd one out hahahahah he did not even had his food.....I guess he had his own quota of ?????????. Nevertheless it was real fun after food we continued our guys talk hahahhaha......The camping site was cool as we were closed to the riverside easy access to water.
It was dark pretty dark but not left out because the local folks were moving around the river line catching fish in the night with their headgear, bows and arrows, I was scared at some point of time our stuffs might get stolen but the assumptions was wrong, stuffs were all intact. when we woke up in the morning,
Eddy Bahlit, and Bah Deng set out for angling, I did carry my fishing rod,,,,,but was way busy preparing breakfast and moreover my intention was to enjoy the camping. Other friends were still sleeping. In a little while the other members who were angling returned back to base, breakfast was ready ( Maggi noodles and red tea) people who were awake had their breakfast while the other folks did not but we kept the food for them as well ( good samaritans).
As none of us were able to catch fishes it was useless to just let the day go since we were camping for a day only I decided to enjoy the water, in a little while later the other folks had also woke up had their breakfast. others had gone back to angling trying their luck with their rods,
While rest of us went into the clear water, gosh one should see how clear the water is you could see the fishes inside the water really clean water, I enjoyed that experience we spent for sometimes in the water.
Peter and his friend had to leave us in between as Peter had plans to go around the places, we bade goodbye to him.
The day was getting hot with the scorching heat from the sun, not realizing the fact but we definitely are tanned hahahhahahah, we came out of the water, got ourselves dried up and started packing our stuffs
The other anglers friends returned and they too did the same getting ready to move out of camp,
In sometime we were set and ready, so we moved out trailed back to the river side and waited for the boatmen to come pick us up.
We reached the site where we parked our vehicles and straight away hit the road, this time there was change in sitting, I was with Ehlang's group, we took another road that leads to Mawsynram, as we traveled back we had traversed beautiful sites and scenery, seeing the Bangladesh border from the horizon it was a huge experience for all of us.
Back to back traveling with Ming on the rear of us we could hear the joy and noises from Ming's Zen all of them were screaming to the music, we stopped at Mawsynram, hunger had caught us so we hurriedly got into an eating joint, ordered the food and hahahhahahah I will tell you all of us were hogging to the food as if we were food deprived hahahahahahah anyways that is how it is when hungers catch you.
when we were done with the food, we hit the road with a consistent speed trying to make it early, however the fun was good, and cant just let the fun go out we stopped midway and all of us dance away to glory did not care who was there in the middle of the roadside hahahahha.
we proceeded ahead on the way out of no where the vehicle from behind us was flickering the head lights I was wondering who is it, no wonder and to our surprised it was Peter again hahahahhaha thats so cool we stopped and again music on the air and dance on the floor this time its not the floor its the road hahahahhah.
Since peter was alone I had to join him for company we hit the road together till we reached back home.
After reaching Shillong all of us dispersed to our respective places tired and exhausted.
In the journey what I learned is our loving state Meghalaya has places beautiful places We are really blessed to have it and as Peter says beauty beyond compare truly it is.
