As it said "tit for tat" and considering Newton's second law to every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Meghalaya's upfront outfit GNLA have once again fired back with a huge and deadly retalliation. The fire is on and who knows the fire will take longer to shutdown or at least put it under a good control. Few days back as it came on prominent daily news paper the death of a Headman's (Nokma) son in Garo hills due to the alleged shooting by the police force, a point to really speak out that it did not take much time for the outfit to retaliate and that too to the loss of four personnels. No doubt the killings are inhumane and against the human rights, but however such kind of situations are no longer new to the Garo Hills area it is a day to day, month to month activities.
Now strategically and technically speaking our police forces are quite and well aware of the situation in Garo Hills, everyday for them is an unpredictable day one may die or get heavily injured situation is such like that one has to be ready to live or to die or to live with a scar for a lifetime. The outfits are heavily armed who knows they might be using the latest weapon and weapon systems. It is also understood by the kind of ambush activities that the outfit has been resorting to. Now to technically and logically analyse , the outfit have been using specific road locations and area as an entity for such kind of attacks. This kind of planning have been a legacy for them, the past scenario as also seen it has always been the jungle and the road entity. Now a question is are the forces well informed about the terrain, locations etc, situational awareness. The outfits have nicely understood our forces weakness and they have taken advantage of that and they knew the time and proper place to attack. No doubt from the recent killings and ambushes the outfit intelligence is strong.
However what we really need to take things into consideration is with the situation and being aware before hand. For the for forces to move around with a normal gypsy is a huge risk as it is seen the personnel being killed were moving in a normal gypsy with no shields and bullet proofs equipments.
It is a high time to think of a reformed strategy to tackle such kind of inhumane activities, it is no use of just having an armour of AK's etc, specialized training for the forces etc. It is highly suggested to bring into the reformed strategy a concept of situational awareness, surveillance, terrain and spatial technologies. Infact real time surveillance is possible now with the drones technology coming at par, it is recommended to have it into the force for such kind of activities. In the recent news as it came on the the Indian express , Delhi Govt is going to use drones with spatial technology to monitor forest cover, the same way the Govt of Meghalaya could use such technology in the homeland security domain tackling outfit activities movements, keeping a surveillance and bringing in situational awareness into tactical force movements in the difficult terrain.
